Facilitative Instructor Course Developed for Oil Industry Client

Continuing its mission to develop emergency responders, EMSI recently developed and delivered a Facilitative Instructor course for an oil industry client to aid in the progression of their internal instructor cadre. Based upon the National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) M410 Facilitative Instructor course, our course is designed to help learners become more effective instructors by providing them with adult learning delivery methods, as well as practical experience under the watchful eye of EMSI experienced trainers.
The objective of this course is to improve training delivery and quality by presenting instructional methods with an emphasis on learner-oriented and industry accepted adult training techniques. Targeting those individuals who are responsible for delivering any sort of interdisciplinary training, our program addresses the following topics:
• Verbal Communications
• Non-Verbal Communications
• Evaluation and Feedback
• Instructional Tools and Equipment
• Instructional Objectives
• Presentation Skills
• Instructional Methods
• The Adult Learner
• Presentation Outline Development
• Group Dynamics
• Ethics and Cultural Awareness
Keeping class size small (ideally 12), this course is intended to be more intimate to allow for more personal guidance and feedback from EMSI’s seasoned instructor cadre. With advanced instructor certifications and decades of experience both designing and presenting instructional materials across a myriad of federal, state, and local agencies, and international organizations and trades, EMSI’s instructors bring first hand, real world experience in delivering courses across various cultures and learning styles.
Built to give learners experience, our course requires each student to present three presentations to their peers. After each presentation, students receive immediate feedback from instructors and peers to help further their development and instill confidence in instructional delivery. In addition to their own experiences in the course, students learn from watching and critiquing their peers. An underlying premise of the course is that each student brings a wealth of experience and knowledge with them that can be shared with the class, whether best practices or lessons learned instructing elsewhere.
