National Incident Management System Overview IS-700

Course Overview

Taking a broader, system-wide view, IS-700 introduces and overviews the National Incident Management System (NIMS). Homeland Security Presidential Directive-5 requires all Federal departments and agencies to adopt and use NIMS in incident management programs and activities. NIMS provides a consistent, nationwide template to enable all responders, whether government, private-sector, or nongovernmental organizations, to work together during domestic incidents.

Specific Course Topics

  • Intent of NIMS
  • Key concepts and principles underlying NIMS
  • Purpose of the NIMS Components including: Preparedness, Communications and Information Management, Resource Management, and Command and Management
  • Purpose of the National Integration Center.

Target Audience

Responders with emergency management responsibilities including prevention, preparedness, response, recovery and mitigation.

Duration:  One-half day (4 hours)
