ICS-355 Ground Support Unit Leader

Course Overview

Focusing on the roles and responsibilities of the Ground Support Unit Leader (GSUL) during all phases of the response effort, ICS-355 is designed to enhance and exercise the student’s knowledge of NIMS and ICS as it relates to providing ground support to operations and incident facilities that are established.  This course is an instructor-led training that supports learning through discussion, lecture, and active participation in multiple exercises that provides a realistic, hands-on approach to mastering the skills required of a GSUL.

Specific Course Topics

  • Roles and responsibilities of the Ground Support Unit Leader along with subordinates
  • Coordination with other IMT entities
  • Determine what transportation support needs are required
  • Identify level of effort (staffing) that will have to be provided
  • Determine what incident support facilities will be established
  • Determining appropriate unit staffing level
  • How to provide safe and secure transportation
  • How to develop and implement Traffic Plans
  • Establish and maintain an equipment service capability including inspections, fueling, maintenance and repair
  • Maintain records and reports
  • Coordinate with finance on contract support and services
  • Supervise and evaluate effectiveness of unit personnel
  • Demobilize assigned resources and unit personnel
